Terror Conviction in Michigan

Terror convictions in Michigan and New York this week saw supporters of al-Qaeda and ISIS brought to justice.

In a deliberation that took just over an hour, a jury in Michigan convicted a Tunisian national on terrorism charges for stabbing a police officer at the Flint, Michigan airport in 2017.

Amor Ftouhi, who was living in Canada, shouted “Allahu Akbar [God is greatest],” when he attacked Lt. Jeff Neville, who survived the attack.

After the attack, Ftouhi told law enforcement officers he was “soldier of Allah” and a follower of Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda.

Ftouchi entered the U.S. from Canada, where he researched gun laws and gun shows in Michigan. He tried to buy a gun but was unsuccessful, so instead, he purchased a knife.

Ftouhi was charged with committing an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries, committing an act of violence at an international airport and interference with airport security. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
